BASIS
“The Young Men’s Christian Association seek to unite those young Men, who, regarding
Jesus Christ as their God and Saviour according to the Holy scriptures, desire to be his disciples in their faith and in their life, and to associate their efforts for the extension of His kingdom amongst young Men”
PURPOSE The purpose of the Ampara YMCA is to unite young men and women – and boys, girls together for development of their physical, social, intellectual, cultural and spiritual and to enhance their ideals of service to others who needs to develop their social structure and to cooperate with other organizations working for the welfare of the Sri Lanka and to stimulate the formation of movements for the highest advancement of humanity.
OBJECTIVE OF THE ORGANIZATION I) Activities to build the body, the mind and Spirit of the members of the organization specially for the youth members.
II) To gather members in fellowship; indoor grams, occasional get together, fellowship activities within the Digamadulla – YMCA membership and with the other Y’s and NGOs of Sri Lanka, and to conduct tours to entertain youth members.
III) Forming peace assemblies for young people to help families who had been affected by war.
IV) To include Associate Members (non - Christian) in sub committees to get benefits from their talents and advise in project functioning.
V) To choose the need people and identify their needs and provide the assistance.
VI) To formulate projects to help the people in the remote areas and conduct medical and health clinics, where they are neglected.
VII) To respond to the impact of armed conflict, specially, on women, children and youths, irrespective of their ethnicity and religion.
VIII) To identify, through community participation and the participation of members of the Board of Directors and the sub – communities, areas of relief and rehabilitation, which could be implemented jointly by the beneficiaries and by our organization.
IX) To identify, long term and short term development and income generation project to be implemented. Specially to those who are still suffering due to the past and the present catastrophes, which will promote self reliance and poverty alleviation.
X) To provide leadership training to the youths, with the help of the Ampara District NGO’S Council / Consortium and National Council of YMCAs and involve youths in various other beneficial trainings sending them to the other NGOs of Sri Lanka.
XI) To help children in furthering their education, provide scholarship facilities to student from poor homes and identify the youths who are unemployed and discouraged state of mind, and help them to mould their thinking and way of life by seminars by and involved them in activities and projects that would give them a better future.
XII) To build up the “Y” Center gradually, to make it a place for relaxation, entertainment, a center for peace activities, and for vocational and educational training.
XIII) To cooperate with the state and with the service organization in their development, rehabilitation and reconciliation activities.
XIV) Promote peace in our area through the peace assembly, to enlighten the public on the present peace move.
XV) To promote Human Rights and child Rights and to help who are poor with free legal advice and legal action. To take selected youths of other “Y”s in the Island to get them acquainted with our programmes and introduce exchange youth programs with all “Y” in Sri Lanka. To appoint a Coordinator and – attorney at – law.
XVI) To open a Foreign Education bureau to help youths to Migrate for advance studies in other countries and in the meantime to help to find employment abroad.
XVII) To improve the Fallen Flowers Mission (Fallen Flowers are the traumatized war affected and natural disaster affected children).
XVIII) To conduct Computer Studies and language classes and to develop a Pre- School for under privileged Children.
FUNDS
1] The Ampara Digamadulla – YMCA shall finance its work from:
a) A grant received from any organization OR Institution in Sri Lanka OR Internationally.
b) Contributions from member Association.
c) By fund raising activities.
d) Grants made by and funds raised from any other interested body, both National and International Organizations.
e) And, Membership fees.
OBLIGATIONS
No Contract, debt or obligation shall be binding on the Ampara Digamadulla – YMCA unless contracted OR accepted by a resolution of the Board of Directors and Countersigned by the President and the General Secretary under the following categories:
a) Within the framework of the constitution.
b) According to the work plan approved at the Program council / Director Board.
c) And, the purpose should be to fulfill the objective of the Organization.
The Organization Administrative building : At present we conduct our administration in the present old building, and in the New Building major meetings and work shops.
We are looking forward to construct a building for the purpose of carrying out Vocational Training for youths who had been traumatized by the Tsunami disaster and the Civil War in order to help them to be qualified in Carpentry and Masonry trades to find suitable employment and as well as to be self – employed. The Project titled is known as “Construction of Building Materials Training cum Production Complex”
